Two more children – sisters aged ten and six – have reunited with their families in Russia with the assistance from Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova and through mediation efforts of the State of Qatar.
Presidential Commissioner for Children's Rights Maria Lvova-Belova said efforts are continuing to reunite children with their families in Russia, Ukraine and other countries, in line with the instruction from President of Russia Vladimir Putin. This time, two daughters returned to their mother from Ukraine to Russia.
According to the Commissioner, the two sisters had travelled to Ukraine with their grandmother in 2020. However, due to COVID-19 restrictions and the launch of the special military operation, they were unable to return home to Russia, where their mother was waiting for them.
Ms Lvova-Belova expressed gratitude to the State of Qatar for its active role in talks with the Ukrainian side, for covering transportation and related expenses, and for ensuring the safe travel of the children and their relatives. She also thanked the International Committee of the Red Cross and representatives of relevant agencies.
The Children’s Rights Commissioner has helped a total of 24 children from 16 families to reunite with their families in Russia, and 101 children from 81 families – with their families in Ukraine and third countries.
