Vladimir Putin signed Federal Law On Amendments to the Federal Law On Fishing and Preservation of Aquatic Biological Resources.
The Federal Law aims to improve legal regulation of relations arising from harvesting of marine mammals.
In particular, it introduces fishing restrictions on catching marine mammals, including a ban on catching marine mammals for educational or cultural purposes.
Also, the Federal Law specifies the grounds and procedure underlying the right to catch marine mammals. Under the Federal Law, the specifics of marine mammal harvesting (catches) shall be set by the Government of the Russian Federation.
