Visit to the Orbita sports and recreation complex

Vladimir Putin arrived in Samara and visited the Orbita sports and recreation complex.

The President toured information stands, the ice sports arena and the all-purpose gym, as well as talked with the young figure skaters and basketball players of Specialised Children’s and Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve No. 1.

The head of state was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, Presidential Aide Alexei Dyumin, Presidential Plenipotentiary Envoy to the Volga Federal District Igor Komarov, Samara Region Governor Vyacheslav Fedorishchev, and Head of the Orbita sports and recreation complex Dmitry Mamkayev.

The Orbita sports and recreation complex with a floor space of 11,000 square metres, which opened in 2016, combined an ice sports arena, an all-purpose gym, swimming pools for children and adults, a martial arts and boxing halls, a training room, and four rooms for group exercises. Physical fitness and dance classes, as well as training in 16 sports are held at the complex, which over 2,500 people visit every day.

Specialised Children’s and Youth Sports School of Olympic Reserve No. 1 opened in Samara in 2004 and is one of the largest in Russia. It trains 2,600 children and teenagers and has 134 salaried coaches. The school has graduated hundreds of professional athletes, winners and medallists of national competitions and European and world championships. Today, 66 graduates of that school are members of national sports teams.
