Maria Lvova-Belova visits Omsk Region

December 12, 2023

Presidential Commissioner for Children’s Rights Maria Lvova-Belova made a working trip to the Omsk Region. The Commissioner met with head of the region Vitaly Khotsenko and held a meeting with heads of relevant ministries and departments to discuss the protection of children’s rights and legitimate interests.

During her meeting with the Governor, Maria Lvova-Belova focused on the initiatives to improve children’s quality of life. Maria Lvova-Belova and Vitaly Khotsenko agreed that the region would continue to support the Commissioner’s strategic programmes. The Omsk Region is taking part in two of her strategic programmes, Russia’s Teenagers and Support through Life, and will soon create a venue for teenagers. The next joint initiative will be the region’s first day care centre for children with disabilities. The local authorities are working actively to reduce the number of children under four in orphanages.

During the week-long trip, the nationwide inspection team reviewed the region’s social facilities for children. A number of initiatives have been proposed based on their findings. Vitaly Khotsenko stated that the shortcomings they identified would be addressed and that the region would join all the Commissioner’s strategic programmes.

Maria Lvova-Belova also held a meeting with heads of the region’s relevant ministries and departments on protecting children’s rights and legitimate interests.
