Greetings to organisers and guests of an exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War

April 29, 2025

Vladimir Putin sent greetings to organisers and guests of a historical-documentary exhibition dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

The message reads, in part:

“In 2025, we are celebrating the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War.

Major public initiatives, as well as educational, awareness-raising and creative projects in high demand, have been dedicated to this important occasion, which holds deep significance for people around the world. Among this rich programme of anniversary events, this large-scale exhibition undoubtedly occupies a special place. Authentic archival documents, museum exhibits, photographs and newsreels presented here are of immense scientific, cultural and educational value. They reveal new evidence regarding our Fatherland’s military history, narrate the immortal feat of our nation, its struggle for freedom, independence and the very right to exist. Of course, one of the darkest chapters of World War II was the crimes committed by the Nazis and their accomplices against the civilians. Millions of innocent people of all ages, professions and nationalities fell victim to these atrocities. They were executed, brutally tortured in concentration camps, died from famine and diseases, during the siege and mass deportations.

Today, we can clearly see the devastating consequences of falsifying history. We must therefore firmly uphold the truth about the decisive contribution made by our fathers, grandfathers and great-grandfathers to the Great Victory. We must stand against those who seek to justify the crimes of the invaders and murderers, and who today attempt to revive the ideology of national supremacism and exceptionalism.

I would like to sincerely thank the organisers of this exhibition for their tremendous, painstaking and vitally important work.”
