Vladimir Putin sent greetings to the participants, guests and organisers of a tribute gala in honour of People’s Artist of the USSR Ilya Glazunov’s 95th birth anniversary.
The message reads, in part:
“This anniversary is a significant date for Russian art and broader Russian culture. Ilya Glazunov was an outstanding son of Russia, a patriot, a luminary, a man of profound devotion and a personality of truly historical calibre. His inspired work is imbued with sincere love for the Fatherland, pride in the military triumphs and cultural achievements of our ancestors, and an unshakable faith in the grand future of a nation that has steadfastly preserved its traditions and spiritual values through centuries of trials.
Apart from art, Glazunov’s legacy as a visionary educator and defender of heritage deserves equal respect. He dedicated himself to nurturing generations of gifted young artists and championed the restoration of architectural treasures.
I keep the warmest memories of my meetings with this wise and generous man of great inner dignity, whose name is inked in gold in Russia’s thousand-year chronicle.”
