Visit to the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – National Research Institute of Experimental Physics

The President arrived in the town of Sarov in the Nizhny Novgorod Region, where the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – National Research Institute of Experimental Physics is located.

The Head of State laid flowers at the monument to Yuly Khariton – an outstanding scientist, the first scientific director of the nuclear centre, and one of the authors of the Soviet atomic project.

During his visit to the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – National Research Institute of Experimental Physics, the President toured an exhibition of the scientific and educational infrastructure in towns of special significance. Vladimir Putin familiarised himself with the progress in the development of scientific centres in Sarov, Snezhinsk, Lesnoy, Zheleznogorsk, and Obninsk.

The President was presented with detailed models of Russian high-tech scientific centres. Explanations were provided by Alexei Likhachev, Director General of the Rosatom State Corporation; Oleg Shubin, First Deputy Director General of Rosatom; Dmitry Bakanov, Head of Roscosmos; Vladislav Shapsha, Governor of the Kaluga Region; Mikhail Zheleznov, Director General of the Russian Federal Nuclear Centre – Yevgeny Zababakhin National Research Institute of Technical Physics; Vladimir Shevchenko, Rector of the MEPhI National Research Nuclear University; and Tatyana Terentyeva, Deputy Director General of Rosatom.
