Vladimir Putin congratulated residents of the city of Cherkessk on the 200th anniversary of its founding.
The message reads, in part:
“Founded on the picturesque banks of the Kuban River, the city played a significant role in strengthening Russian statehood and developing the North Caucasus. Your fellow countrymen made an honourable contribution to the chronicle of military and labour achievements of the Fatherland.
Importantly, today, while maintaining its distinctive appearance, Cherkessk is turning a new page in its history. It is home to major production facilities, healthcare, cultural, educational, and sports institutions. The transport and tourism infrastructure is being upgraded. As is widely known, the residents of Cherkessk are famous for their hard work and hospitality. They hold sacred the traditions of friendship, neighbourliness, and mutual respect that have been passed down from generation to generation between the peoples living in this blessed land.”
