Vladimir Putin extended his greetings to the participants, organisers and guests of the National Forum of Finno-Ugric Peoples and the Congress of the Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples, currently underway in Yoshkar-Ola, the capital of the Republic of Mary El.
The message reads, in part:
“Over the past centuries, the Finno-Ugric peoples have made a significant and multifaceted contribution to the strengthening of Russian statehood and the advancement of Russia. Their achievements in various spheres are a vital and integral part of our rich historical, scientific, cultural and spiritual legacy.
The agenda of the ongoing events is focused on bringing up the rising generation, our young people, creating conditions for the professional advancement of our young men and women, and helping them realise of their creative potential. In this connection, I am delighted to note the great and fruitful work which the Association of Finno-Ugric Peoples has been doing for years, and its remarkable substantive initiatives to preserve the languages and distinctive customs of the Finno-Ugric peoples and support in-demand ethnocultural, educational, awareness and creative projects.”
