Vladimir Putin had a late-night working meeting yesterday with Deputy Head of the Federal Anti-Monopoly Services, Vitaly Korolyov, to offer him the position of Tver Region Governor.
President of Russia Vladimir Putin: Mr Korolyov, you are serving as deputy head of a major federal agency, the Anti-Monopoly Service. It has been working across all sectors of the economy, and in all regions. Moreover, you have demonstrated a stellar track record in all your undertakings.
That said, I would like to offer you an opportunity to try yourself out on the regional front by heading the Tver Region. This is a prominent region, and an important one too considering its central location. It is also quite challenging since there are issues requiring more attention or solutions. However, there is a sense of centrality about the Tver Region. This has nothing to do with the fact that it is part of the Central Federal District. I am referring to its history and what this land has done and how it has worked to make our country stronger. Let me reiterate that there are many challenges requiring special attention, but this is still a very interesting region.
My question for you is whether you are ready to accept this job?
Vitaly Korolyov: Mr President, thank you very much for the high trust you have placed in me. I am ready. Make no mistake, I will live up to your trust. Let me say that improving the quality of life there will be my top priority.
I must say that the primary task will be to ensure proper oversight and preparations for the winter season so that people get electric power and heating in their homes, which has special importance during the cold months.
Second, supporting the families of special military operation participants will be another priority.
In addition to this, I want to emphasise that I will build on the track record of my predecessors to enhance the region’s economic potential. Of course, I will work hard to support and assist the project to build a high-speed railway through the Tver Region, as approved by you, Mr President. I will work hard on these initiatives.
I want to add that as a public servant, I have grown accustomed to acting with extreme diligence when carrying out your instructions, and will continue to do so in the future.
Vladimir Putin: Mr Korolyov, you must rely on people who know the region, work there and view it as their home region.
Vitaly Korolyov: I understand this.
Vladimir Putin: I wish you every success.
Vitaly Korolyov: Thank you.
