November 16, 2021

Presidential Aide, State Council Secretary Igor Levitin and Head of the Republic of Buryatia, Chairman of the State Council Commission on Transport Alexei Tsydenov co-chaired a meeting of the Commission during the Transport Week to discuss the development of transit systems in towns, cities and metropolitan areas.

The meeting was attended by Kursk Region Governor Roman Starovoit, members of the Federation Council, State Duma deputies, representatives of federal executive bodies and regional officials, the academic community and business associations.

The meeting participants heard and discussed a report by Sergei Kostin, the head of the Commission’s working group and Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Committee on Architecture and Urban Development.

The discussion concerned selecting a federal executive body to be responsible for developing transport infrastructure in cities and towns. The participants reviewed the problems in public transit services caused by the outrunning growth and concentration of housing in metropolitan areas.

Following the discussion, the participants outlined further steps, such as preparing a spatial development programme to systemise housing development in cities, modelling and predicting passenger traffic on public transit, and providing additional support for the public transport upgrade programme.
